Professional Background:
Charles brings multiple years of transportation research and internship experience to InterPlan. He recently completed a research project for the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) which evaluated the relationships between driveway spacing and safety at major signalized intersections across the state of Utah. Prior to his research, Charles worked as an intern for six months at a local transportation engineering firm. One of his tasks was to conduct parking analysis of the new Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy. Charles also completed a year-long internship for a software company where he helped develop programs for the use of modeling the flow of surface water. In his first internship experience, Charles worked for UDOT at the Traffic Operations Center (TOC). At the TOC, Charles conducted a statewide inventory of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) components, including Variable Message Signs (VMS) and Road Weather Information Systems (RWIS). His work culminated in the publication of a 100-page atlas which documents the location and equipment at every RWIS across the state of Utah.
Personal Interests:
I developed a love for transportation while in high school as I observed the reconstruction of my hometown’s central freeway-to-freeway interchange. My love evolved into zeal through my study of transportation in college. I am a strong believer in multi-modal transportation and have found a way to walk, bike, take local transit, or utilize a combination of the three to commute to every office which I have been employed.
